China 7050 aluminum plate is a high-strength heat-treatable alloy with extremely high strength and resistance to exfoliation corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It’s commonly used in wing skins and fuselage, especially in military aircraft. After solution treatment, it has good plasticity, good heat treatment strengthening effect, good strength below 150 degrees, and particularly good low temperature strength.

7050 aluminium sheet not only has low content of impurities Fe and Si, but also has very low content of Mn. The brittle inclusions in the structure are greatly reduced. The ratio of zinc to magnesium is increased in the main components, and Zr is used to replace Cr as the grain refiner.

Due to the improvement of these components and the artificial aging treatment, the 7050 alloy has excellent comprehensive properties such as high fracture toughness, high fatigue strength, good damage tolerance, and good stress corrosion resistance while maintaining higher strength. Another outstanding advantage is that it has high hardenability, which is especially suitable for the manufacture of thick plates, forgings, and thick section parts.

7050 aluminum is supplied in three tempers: T74, T76, and T73. For structural parts that require high strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking, the T74 temper will be a proper choice; for structural parts that require high strength and resistance to exfoliation corrosion, the T76 temper should be selected; the T73 temper is mainly used for rivet materials that require high strength and good corrosion resistance.

7050 thick aluminum plate has been widely used in Boeing 777 passenger aircraft and F/A−18Hornet and F−22Raptor military aircraft, and has become a common structural material in the large aircraft industry.

The double-peak phenomenon appeared in the double-stage aging of 7050 aluminum alloy, and the mechanical properties and microstructure of the corresponding second peak are better than those of the first peak. 743 K/70 min+393 K/8 h+423 K/long-time aging can get the maximum hardness and strength, and better elongation. Compared with single-stage aging, the aging time is shortened, the heat treatment efficiency is improved, and the cost is reduced.

In China, the manufacturing demand of large aircraft is driving the demand for aluminum alloy materials, especially aviation aluminum alloys. The C919 large passenger aircraft has received more than 500 orders from more than 20 domestic and foreign airlines, and more than 200 orders for the ARJ21-700.
