What Are Uses of 7075 Thick Aluminum Sheet

Time:2025-08-22

In the vast world of industrial materials, 7075 thick aluminum plate occupies a significant position due to its outstanding performance. This aluminum plate, a super-hard Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy, boasts a range of remarkable properties, making it widely used in numerous fields.

Performance Characteristics of 7075 Thick Aluminum Plate

Ultra-High Strength and Hardness

7075 thick aluminum plate boasts a tensile strength of 524-525 MPa, a yield strength of 455-503 MPa, and a hardness of 150 HB, far exceeding that of ordinary mild steel. Its strength can be further enhanced through specific heat treatments, such as T6 and T651 tempers. It maintains excellent properties below 150°C and exhibits exceptional strength even at low temperatures.

Significant Heat Treatment Strengthening Effects

Zinc (Zn) and magnesium (Mg) are the primary alloying elements in 7075 aluminum plate. They form the strengthening phase MgZn₂, which plays a key role in the alloy's strength. Furthermore, the addition of copper (Cu) and chromium (Cr) not only improves the aluminum sheet's corrosion resistance but also enhances its hardenability. However, it's important to note that excessive zinc and magnesium content may reduce the material's corrosion resistance. A two-stage aging treatment, such as the T73 temper, can improve the material's resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Good Processability and Limitations

After solution treatment, 7075 thick aluminum sheet exhibits excellent ductility, making it suitable for rolling, forging, and various machining operations. However, its weldability is relatively poor, and aluminum cladding or other protective measures are often required during welding to prevent stress corrosion. Its fine grain structure facilitates machining operations such as drilling and thread rolling, while also enhancing tool wear resistance.

Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance

7075 thick aluminum sheet inherently possesses some corrosion resistance, and surface treatments such as anodizing can significantly enhance its oxidation resistance. During the production process, strict control of impurity elements, such as iron (Fe) and silicon (Si), is crucial for ensuring the aluminum sheet's plasticity and corrosion resistance.

7075 Aluminum Tempers

O Temper (Annealed): 7075 aluminum sheet in this condition exhibits excellent plasticity and is suitable for applications requiring extensive cold working, such as stamping complex shapes.

T6 Temper (Solution Treatment + Artificial Aging): 7075 t6 aluminum achieves high strength and hardness, making it widely used in many applications requiring high material strength.

T651 Temper (Stress Relieved): 7075 thick aluminum sheet in the T651 temper offers high strength while eliminating internal stresses. This effectively prevents deformation caused by stress release during subsequent processing and use, making it suitable for processing applications requiring high dimensional accuracy.

Applications of 7075 Thick Aluminum Plate

Aerospace: Due to its high strength, excellent low-temperature performance, and excellent fatigue resistance, 7075 thick aluminum plate is widely used in the manufacture of aircraft structural components such as wing panels, stringers, and bulkheads. These components are subject to extreme stress during flight, and 7075 thick aluminum plate ensures aircraft safety under these extreme operating conditions.

Mold Manufacturing: Its high hardness and excellent wear resistance make 7075 thick aluminum plate an ideal material for manufacturing high-stress molds. Applications such as blow molds, shoe molds, ultrasonic welding molds, and golf head molds can effectively extend mold life and reduce production costs using 7075 thick aluminum plate.

Mechanical Equipment and Industrial Component Manufacturing: In the manufacture of industrial components such as fixtures, heavy forgings, mechanical parts, and lost-wax molds, 7075 thick aluminum plate meets the high-strength, lightweight design requirements. It not only ensures component strength and stability, but also reduces the overall weight of the equipment, improving its operating efficiency.

Other Industrial Applications: In the automotive industry, 7075 thick aluminum plate can be used to manufacture key structural components, improving vehicle performance and safety. In electronic equipment manufacturing, it can be used to create high-precision structural parts or components requiring fatigue resistance, meeting the growing demand for lighter, thinner, and higher-performance electronic products.
